Knowledge Hook-Up teaches special needs classes
This summer KHU began classes for developmentally disabled residents of Southeast Chicago.
Most of the participants had never been on a computer before but with the aid of adaptive mice and
keyboards were able to accomplish many computer tasks quite easily. They created articles of
their favorite person or pets, resumes, E-mail each other and the teachers, and are considering
creating a newsletter for their South Chicago Parents and Friends organization.

Day of the Dead Celebrated

Knowledge Hook-Up

our classes.
This Mexican holiday is a time when
families remember their dead, and
the continuity of life. Celebrants
believe that the souls of the
dead return and are all around them.
Families remember the departed by
telling stories about them.
Gravesites and family altars are
profusely decorated with flowers
(primarily large, bright flowers such
as marigolds and chrysanthemums),
and adorned with religious amulets
and with offerings of food,
cigarettes and alcoholic beverages.
This festive interaction with both the
living and the dead is a way of
recognizing the cycle of life and death.
