NEWS AND EVENTS

Seniors taught three to a lap
Basic PC training for Seniors by a KHU mobile team is in full
swing. On Wednesday, August 23rd, Rita Alvarez and Kathy
Fitzgerald packed up their minivan with KHU's seven laptops to
teach a group of seniors at Lebanon Lutheran Church at 13100 S.
Manistee, Hegewisch. Pastor Karen Knutson has graciously
consented to let KHU use their boardroom. Because of the
overwhelming response, three Seniors shared each laptop. Gold
stars and homework were requested as well as wanting three
more weeks of classes! Kudos to those who have expressed
interest in getting their own personal computer (now that they
have KHU, their community technology center, to assist them
in learning).

KHU congratulates first class of graduating students
A Knowledge Hook-Up certificate of completion was given out this
week to the first group of students who diligently attended six
two-hour class sessions to learn basic PC literacy. Edith Padilla,
Gallistel Elementary School Social Worker, did a first rate job of
teaching both Spanish and English speaking students ranging in
age from 10 to 70.

When these students arrived at the KHU computer lab, most had
never used a computer. In the span of three weeks, Edith Padilla
turned timidity into enthusiam. KHU had to open early when it
was discovered that students were congregating at 9:15 am for
their 10:00 am class, so they could practice their new
computer skills! Congratulations to all

A BIG thank you
to our teachers — Edith Padilla, Rita Alvarez, Kathy Fitzgerald
our new manager — Don Kuzevich
and new onsite trainer — Fernando Hernandez.
