NEWS AND EVENTS
Knowledge Hook-Up Fun Fair
A fundraiser, planned and executed by the students for Knowledge Hook-up, took place on
June 2 at the American Legion Post #220. Our participants planned for weeks, creating signs,
menus, games, and selling raffle tickets. Over 300 people attended and over $2,000 was raised.
Extra hot dogs, potato chips and soda were prepared and sold by the students to the students
on the following Monday classes.
President's Award given to KHU Director
On July 12, our Executive Director, Patricia Fisher, received the President's Volunteer
Service Award from the members of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation.
This award recognized Ms. Fisher's dedication to volunteer service and signified that she had
served her country with distinction. Ms. Fisher now joins a remarkable team that includes
millions of Americans whose everyday acts of kindness and decency make our country a better
place. Please help make this team even stronger by encouraging your friends and family
members to get involved and make a difference in your community.

Summer Success Stories
Students from the Conversational English
classes went to breakfast and ordered
their meal in English. Other English-only
activities planned for this class are trips to
the grocery store, drug store, and library.
Workforce Development classes began last
month and more residents are now aware
that they can create a resume and apply for
jobs online at Knowledge Hook-Up. Over
25 participants this semester have
received employment or been promoted
at their present job after taking classes to
improve
their computer skills.
Knowledge Hook-Up has been fortunate to
have the knowledge and services of
three high school volunteers this summer.
Math-help for GED class continues
throughout the summer.
