Patty Fisher Principal for a Day at Gallistel School
On Thursday, November 2, 1600 corporate, community and civic
leaders across the city of Chicago served as Principals for a Day
(PFAD) in 600 Chicago Public Schools. Here on the East Side at
Gallistel School, PFAD Patty Fisher, director and founder of
Knowledge Hook-Up, met with Principal Patrick Mac Mahon to
discuss how KHU will continue to be involved in the school.
Our "Miss Patty" greeted the school staff; delivered morning
announcements over the P.A.; toured the school and visited

classrooms. The special ed students in Mrs. Katich's class wrote a
poem for the PFADs and explained how the whole class had
participated. The kindergarden class showed Miss Patty their
journal's with "power words" (commonly used words). The French
class is hoping for computers in their classroom one day.
In the afternoon Miss Fisher attended the 10th Annual PFAD
Luncheon hosted by Mayor Richard M. Daley at the Chicago Hilton
and Towers. The Mayor announced that DonorsChoose Chicago, a
non-profit organization that helps teachers get classroom resources
will match all donations to student projects between now and
November 30, up to $100,000. The challenge is open to the entire
Chicago community. (For more info go to DonorsChoose.org/cps).
Principal for a Day is designed to get community groups,
corporations, celebrities and others involved in the Chicago Public
Schools. Some members of the 1985
Super Bowl Champion
Chicago Bears were among the celebrities
who were PFADs this
year. Miss Patty reports that Otis Wilson
asked that every man
get 10 other men and go to a school to read
to the children.
"That was cool."
