Knowledge Hook-Up® is a non-profit educational organization serving
the neighborhoods of South Chicago, South Deering, the East Side,
and Hegewisch. The population of 89,000 is comprised of 41%
Hispanic, 31% African-American, 26% Caucasian, and 2% Asians
and Indigenous. 80% of the students qualify for the free-or-reduced
lunch program.
We have partnerships with Centro Comunitario Juan Diego,
Healthy
South Chicago, Calumet Jane Addams Elementary School,
and Webcast
Learning at
Gallistel School working with Principal
Mac Mahon. We are working with Pat McGuire at Mann Park to set up
broadband internet access so we can offer computer training to
their
seniors and Special
Education children.
Currently, Lebanon Lutheran
has their broadband
connection for
Basic
PC & Internet
Literacy
classes for seniors. The Senior Satellite Project will start at a new
location, Senior Suites of
Hegewisch, on Nov. 1st.
KHU will be hosting GED, ESL, and
Citizenship classes. These
classes will be taught by Olive-Harvey at
our location.
KHU has been
accepted as a training location for the Tax
Assistance Program (TAP).
