2010
• KHU registers to be a designated Questionnaire Assistance Center and provide FREE Census 2010 questionnaire assistance.
• KHU parents attended a Financial Literacy presentation at KHU to learn how to open a checking and/or savings account.
• East Side Chamber awards KHU's Patty Fisher the Community Leader Award
• KHU attended a block club leader meeting held by the Claretians to share our “Best Practices” with other block club leaders.
• KHU held a wellness discussion after ESL class.
• Seniors from KHU’s class attended the Senior Service Coalition of Southeast Chicago’s Cinco de Mayo Senior Health & Resource Fair.
• All were welcomed to Knowledge Hook-Up to hear a presentation and then join a discussion about new parks and new greenways in the 10th Ward from members of the Friends of the Parks organization.
• Staff from KHU helped out at the South Chicago Parents and Friends annual pancake breakfast.
• KHU had 4 high school volunteers throughout the summer. Two students will continue on throughout the school year.
• KHU participated in the annual fishing rodeo held at Wolf Lake.
• KHU was a participating worksite in the Put Illinois to Work (PIW) program. 3 people were employed through September.

2008-9
• Second year in a row, Ms. Fisher received the Presidents Volunteer Award.
• Three years in a row, Ms. Fisher has been Principal for a Day at Gallistel School.
• KHU and IBM have improved web-literacy at Gallistel Elementary School. Gallistel received IBM's Reading Companion web-based literacy program with KHU's sponsorship. Children who use this
software test significantly higher on word recognition and comprehension tasks. Gallistel's Principal McMahon is very excited that his 2nd graders have an opportunity to use IBM's innovative software thanks to Ms. Fisher and Robert Reed of IBM Chicago.
• For a neighborhood Health Fair, KHU brought in the Life Source Van for a Community Blood Drive to increase the shortage of donations in our community.
• Volunteers from KHU and Boy Scout Troop 701, helped the East Side Chamber's Clean-N-Green spruce up our business district.
• Ongoing: Helping the Environmental Task Force bring awareness to green space, reserves and
marsh land protection.
• We are working with other organizations to bring another Community Media Workshop to the neighborhood. We hosted a workshop at KHU on July 22, 2008.
• KHU worked with the Claretians and several local environmental groups to help bring about the
Green Summit, which was held Saturday, May 31, 2008 in the 10th Ward.
• KHU is also going to be working with the State of Illinois as an Access
Site for Illinois WorkNet.

2007.
• KHU hosts seminars for community improvement. Speakers include the Claretians on home ownership, SCDCom on job resources, Southeast Environmental Task Force, Hegewisch Marsh Restoration Project, and F. Ramirez, a psychiatrist from the Confederation of Spanish American Families.
KHU donates the computer lab to After School Matters to train instructors. ASM is a non-profit organization that partners with the City of Chicago and Community-Based Organizations to expand
out-of-school opportunities for Chicago teens.
KHU begins teaching classes at Gallistel Language Academy for parents wanting to learn
computer basics.

KHU gratefully receives monetary donation from LaSalle Bank.
ESL Classes begin at KHU taught by Olive-Harvey College.
Students give Patty Fisher birthday party.

2006
Community Weaving meeting hosted by KHU.
Olive-Harvey ESL classes begin. KHU extends hours to accomodate more students.
Grand Opening Party with about 200 attendees.
KHU joins the South Chicago Mexican Independence Day parade, distributing brochures and candy from the KHU van (the manager's van with magnetic KHU signs affixed).
KHU designated as a location for the Tax Assistance Program (TAP) for residents needing free assistance in filing their tax forms.
Olive-Harvey College to teach GED, English as a Second Language, and Citizenship classes
at KHU lab.

KHU mobile training unit starts classes on 6 laptops for Seniors at
Lebanon Lutheran Church.

School supplies are donated by KHU for the East Side Chamber of Commerce August 19th
Back-to-School Rally.

Basic PC literacy classes begin in the lab, taught by Edith Padilla from Gallistel.
Skype technology installed.
Color Laser Multifunction Printer is donated to KHU by Hewlett-Packard.
Website launched.
KHU Lab videotaped for National CTCNet conference in Washington D.C.
KHU meets with community leaders.
Purchased 25 computers +10 printers. All computers have cable modem internet access.
Workstation tables are built, electric is upgraded, security doors and windows installed.
Cork floor installed.
Website content and design in development by Flying Scarlini’s Webwork.
KHU reserves computer lab for Jane Addams Elementary for before-school computer classes.

2005
• KHU receives a donation of 50 computers, a server, Cisco routers and switches from ABN/AMRO.
Computer lab upgrades begin: history of Southeast Chicago painted as border on walls.
